Ciao miei amici e mia famiglia!
Wow! I can't believe it has been a week since I left for Italy, Il tempo vola quando ci si diverte.
After a long day at the sea yesterday, I finally woke up early before class. My friend and I went to the bar for coffee and I had an espresso with an apple and yogurt that I brought from home, while my friend had a cappuccino and a pasticiotto (only found in the South of Italy). We sat outside and chatted in Italian while reviewing our notes before class. At 9:30 class started, and I sat down in the hot room. During class we listened to a new song, and pretended to interview a famous singer (I was the giornalista and I interviewed my classmate who was the singer). We also went over adjectives and noun agreements before our break at eleven. During break they gave us cold refreshments and leftover dolce from Friday. I snagged my favorite almond cookie with powder sugar and ate my treat under the umbrella in the courtyard. Class went by very fast after the break and before I knew it I was in my room waiting for my friends to get out.
We all needed more food to cook for our meals so we left our apartments and went to the fruttivendola, panetteria and mercato to buy food. I bought fresh pomodorri from the fruttivendola and mignon bread and taralli (snack known in the South of Italy) from the panetteria and fruit, vegetables, yogurt, and tunafish from the mercato. Once we carried our grocery bags home, I put all my produce away and made myself a salad with tuna, balsamic, red pepper and a piece of mignon (small roll with lines on it shaped like squares). Once again, a delicious meal in Italy.
Then I relaxed during the siesta time, (14:00-17:00) did some of my homework (grammar packet) and caught up on my blogging and picture editing. Around 18:00 a couple of my friends knocked on my door to workout, so I lead an Old School Fitness Workout from the vacation recommendation papers. I decided to combine two days into one workout because the workout group (3 total) was in descent shape. The workout was a success and afterwards we did ten minutes of abs. Then everyone quickly showered and changed for pizza dinner with Ellen (one of the directors of the program and teacher from Wesleyan). When we arrived in the courtyard, we had to fill out a mini questionnaire about our time in Lecce so far, and then after writing in Italian, I found the vegetable pizza. The slice were huge, but the crust was super thin. The pizza was very tasty but I wish there was more sauce and less cheese. After everyone "mangiano la pizza" we discussed the questionnaire with Ellen solamente parlare in italiano. Of course, she had to give us dessert, but the dolce she served were the leftover cookies from the concert and there was no more biscotti con la mandorla (almonds), so I passed on dessert.
Once the program was done for the evening, three of my friends and I decided to walk down to the piazza to digest the pizza. There was a concert in the middle of the piazza and I listened to this famous Italian woman sing (I don't remember her name). Then after getting semi lost coming home, we made it back to the courtyard where people were booking places to stay for break. I decided to go back to my room, to finish my homework and get ready for bed because by the time I got back it was almost 24:00. I had to write a paragraph about an Italian singing group or singer, so I wrote about Nek. I was introduced to Nek's songs during my first year of Italian at Vassar, and I still listen to them all the time. His genera is rock and pop and I always have a big smile on my face when I listen to some of his songs (Laura non c'è o Se io non avessi te).
After my homework I changed into my pajamas, brushed my teeth, washed my face and shut the lights off so my roommates could sleep. Now I am currently writing this blog post, and about to go to bed. Vi amo tutti! Domani, I am going to Gallipoli to tour a different city in the South of Italy and find more delicious food. non posse aspettare.
Con tanto amore,
Samantha
